What's better than one engine at the meeting?  TWO engines at the meeting!  The engine in the rear is a rotary engine, not to be confused with a Wankel.  On this engine the crankshaft, rods and pistons are stationary (fastened to the airframe) and the rest of it spins.  This type of engine was used on the Fokker Dr. 1 Triplane made famous by the Red Baron Manfred Von Richthofen in World War I
